Icelandic withdrawal from fossil-fuel based economy. Written by Monty Halls (Senior) on 13/06/08
In co-operation with other Scandinavian countries, Iceland is now well advanced in the technology drive to distance itself from a carbon fossil fuel based economy. Thermal and hydroelectric energy is being used to extract hydrogen to power electric fuel cells in a variety of transport sytems. I wonder whether the EU and the UK government authorities are keeping up-to-date with this enlightened technological ....

SCCT Presentation - Bedstone College, Shropshire Fri 9th May 2008 Written by Monty Halls (Senior) on 13/05/08
Yet again, it was a huge pleasure to be invited into the calm and hospitable environment that Bedstone College exudes. Attentive and curious audience. In spite of a nervous start and the presentation itself beset with technical problems, it all seemed to go very well indeed. We were treated to a lovely meal and six or seven people (including the biology staff) came up and said that they would like ....

Latest developments (March 2008) Written by Monty Halls (Senior) on 26/03/08
We enjoyed a very productive Trustee meeting on Thursday 20th March. Dr Joanne Skerry was formally adopted as the latest Trustee and provided some thought-provoking input to the meeting. She pointed out that the website, although comprehensive, lacked a single iconic, central item to which the public could relate and monitor development and the allocation of the funding efforts. We took this observation ....

CARBON CAPTURE AND STORAGE
5.74 Emissions of carbon dioxide (C02) from human activities are the major contributor to climate change and ocean acidification, the greatest long term environmental challenges facing the world today. Marine Reserves - Australia and the Canaries Written by Monty Halls Senior - e-mail to David Heath MP on 12/08/07
Dear Mr Heath,
I am sending two websites which I am sure would be of interest to Ben Bradshaw in the attempt to increase the range of Marine Reserves in UK waters.
http://www.environment.gov.au/coasts/mpa/index.html - - This site displays the increase (to nearly 30% of sea area) of Marine Reserves in coastal Australia - mainly concentrating on the Great Barrier ....
OUR FORUM DELETION Written by Monty Halls Senior - Wed 25th July 07 on 25/07/07
Sadly, we have had to dispense with 'Our Forum'. The location was being used by unscrupulous commercial organisations (largely from the USA) as a 'free vehicle' to promote their wares whilst taking care to remain anonymous and uncontactable. Another entry was an attempt to spread a virus.
We regard this practice as despicable, but do not wish to degrade the site by offering a platform ....

The Creation of Artificial Reefs Written by BBC Science and Nature (Animals) - Take It Further on 18/06/07
If you mentioned the word ‘reef’ to most people they would instantly think of a picturesque tropical reef with schools of brightly coloured fish swimming through clear waters past sponges, sea fans and a multitude of different corals. Within the tropics this may well be the case, but outside these warm waters reefs still occur with schools of brightly coloured fish swimming through clear waters past ....

Charitable Trust Status Written by Monty Halls Senior on 26/05/07
31st May 2007 - - - We are flat out to obtain 'Charitable Trust' status. This will take a while as we need to gain the approval of each individual for his/her Board appointment, satisfy the application criteria of the Charities Commission , and submit the application form (great efforts are being made by Jan Savill and I to make it 'squeaky clean' and compliant). Keep your fingers crossed ....
