The DEEP Progamme (Depletion Environmental Educatiion Programme) - Latest May 2007
Written by Monty Halls Senior on 24/05/07

As part of the DEEP lobbying side of the programme, we have been in touch with David Heath MP (a former parliamentary adviser to the World Wildlife Fund) to express our concern at the issue and seeking a 'profile lift' at UK Government and UNEP/UNDP level. This has been reinforced by communications with David Miliband MP (Environment Secretary) and Tessa Jowells MP (Cultural Minister) explaining the aim of DEEP and reinforcing the case with some of the scientific articles contained in the 'Articles' Section of this site.

The University of Plymouth (Marine Biology Dept) has been approached to see if they can help with the scientific expertise required to further the media-supported scientific expeditions. The same exercise has been conducted through the appropriate departments of universities of Florida, Nova Scotia, California and the Moore Foundation and Scripps Institute in the USA.

The Coastal Management side of the Australian (CSIRO) - Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation and Tasmanian Governments have been apprised of the situation. The hope is that this measure will help to reinforce the attempts to protect the Great Barrier Reef.

Various departments of the UNEP and UNDP have been apprised of our case (including the IUCN (World Conservation - 'Species Survival' organisation).

Leading figures in the IUCN, Shark Trust, Conservation Foundation should now be aware of our efforts.

Efforts have been made to recruit the top TV documentary producers and directors to accompany the planned expeditions.

Please let Monty Halls Senior know if you would like further detail of these efforts.
