Arnnah Alley - Save the Hawksbill Turtle - Honduras
Written by Monty Halls (Senior) - 12th April 2009 on 12/04/09

We heard from Arnnah over Easter. She is a 14 year-old student at Great Barr School, Birmingham. She is set on taking part (along with a team of scientists) in Operation Wallacea due to arrive in Honduras in the summer of 2010. Her particular interest centres on the conservation of the Hawksbill Turtle. This species has a particularly attractive shell (to the point that it has been used as currency in some Pacific Island communities !). Their numbers have declined quite dramatically over a 10-year period and their conservation is of great importance when seen from the biological diversity viewpoint. We applaud Arnnahs' efforts and have established an appeal website on her behalf with the address of www.justgiving.com/savetheturtle . This site is designed to help her with the expenses of travel and accommodation in Honduras and enable her to conduct research (alongside some well-qualified scientists) into the general health of the species. The research will also investigate the state of various land and sea-based other species and examine their state in relation to the local human population.
