Denvy Lo's Gobi Desert Challenge (e-mail) Written by Monty Halls (Senior) on 07/07/10
With no apologies, I am reproducing Denvy's e-mail report on her Gobi Desert Challenge. It does serve to illustrate the amazing calibre of our marathon-running, mountain-climbing and other supporters. We are proud of you !!

Subject: A shark out of the desert
Hello!
I am now back in Hong Kong from the Gobi Desert. I survived 250km of the most stunning landscape I have ever laid eyes on - rolling hills of sage, totally arid desert, well-manicured grape-growing valleys, box canyons, wind-sculptured sand dunes, labyrinths of gulley and salt flats. I also experienced 55 degree celsius days, days so hot that standing barefoot on the sand for 5 seconds is enough to blister your feet. My strength was put to the ultimate test when at the end of the 100km day my body was so desperate for rest that I was almost sleeping (while walking!) but I pushed on and made it back to camp.
And to top it off, I came in 1st place in the female category and 12th place overall – a remarkable achievement since I have never done any marathons nor half-marathons before in my life. Believe me, I am still reeling from the shock of it all!
But I wouldn’t be here without your amazing support as well as your donation to Shark Rescue. Most importantly, many of you have said that you will no longer eat shark fin soup, and this is exactly what I had in mind when I started this journey. Please continue to encourage your friends and family to keep shark fin soup off the menu. Write in to your local government to lobby for change. We can truly make a difference and this is where it starts.
Much love xx
Denvy
